Drift Maps

In this map I started south of the U.W.M. student union and worked my way according to my production strategy.

Production Strategy

In this drift I decided to stick with chance in deciding my walking fate. Instead of playing cards though I elected to use a small old red dye. Every street corner I would roll, 2-4-6 all make me turn right and visa-versa with the odd numbers. But the real interesting part is the number dictates how far I go, 2=2 blocks and so on. But for the sake of distance and time I excluded 6's and 5's. I thought this worked for my walk, I filmed while I recorded my sounds. I enjoyed this method because where I walked was completely up to chance and it really showed me different parts of the city.

Silent Sketch #2

I worked more with abstract shots in this silent sketch. I wanted to see what came out of the theory of making an edit without even considering any sounds or pre-distinguished ideas for edits. I found some useful shots and edits to build on. Just click on the video box to view.

Rough Cut Audio Sketch "Truck Noise"

During my walk I was caught at a pedestrian intersection and I heard the sound of a landscaping truck pulling through the intersection. At first I thought to ignore it but as I continued to listen it sounded as though it could be contorted in the editing process to sound somewhat interesting when I worked with it I wasn't so confident about its enjoyability. I came up with this cut, just click the video box to view hope to get some input, thanks for reading.

Rough Cut Audio Sketch "Radio Flood"

While working on my drift I wanted to find some sort of artificial sound that blended well in a rhythmic pattern with a natural, uncontrolled sound. I decided to use a recording that consisted of a good truck sound as well as various car noises and street sounds as a base track and over that another track consisting of a rhythmic radio white noise. The radio recording came from an instance where I stopped in a small alley and was able to isolate a great recording that had a minimal "low drone." I also used a small echo effect to accentuate the white noise. In this rough cut I use a short clip of the concrete ground. I am almost completely zoomed in and as I slowly walk the auto white balance and color correction come together to almost accidentally make for an interesting shot. I also used various shots such as a welcome sign and a car driving past a small alleyway.

The New and Improved Silent Sketch #1

At first I had trouble understanding exactly what I wanted to show in my rough sketches. But I went back to the drawing board and tryed to utilize more of the shots I overlooked at first. It's just a start but I am pretty interested to see what futher editing can do. Click on the video box to view.
